A SCENE (Ra'Ghu's benediction)
“Great Lord,” Ra’Ghu began his benediction, bending down on one knee in reverence. “We give You our thanksgiving this night. There is not one who can be righteous apart from You. You have protected us with Your strong arm and deflected Your enemies with Your shield. You have become a wall of strength for me and You have rescued us from all destroyers and all those who partake of iniquity. You have hidden us from terrifying disasters and hurdled us over the chasms of dissection.
“While we are blessed throughout eternity for Your great sacrifice that You have made for us, we are also blessed by the sacrifice that Broth has made for us. Although You lay Your life down for us while we were yet your enemies, and our compatriot laid his down for his own, both were of a love most precious.
“We give you our thanksgiving this night, because Broth was one who feared your name, one who once was greedy and envious but refined by Your truth for Your purpose. It was only through You, God, that he could come into reformation. We give you our thanksgiving, because of the patience and mercy You have revealed by granting him knowledge of Your name, which was most undeserving.
“In the remaining days, let us look through our despairs and troubles, and see the light beyond the darkness. For even if our enemies squander all from us, there is one thing that they can never lay hold of—our soul. For none can seize from You what is rightfully Yours.
“There is no deception in any of Your works, and no deceit in the deliberation of Your heart. Those who are in harmony with You shall stand before You forever, and those who walk in the way of Your heart shall be secure forevermore.
“I give you my thanksgiving, for you have not abandoned us. It is not for man's sake that You have not abandoned us, but for the sake of the glory of Your name. For You are truth, and all Your works are righteousness.”
The three men had gathered at the end of the dungeon. Skylark disgruntledly did his best to show respect to his two beguiled friends by enduring the lament. Once Ra’Ghu had forced out the traditional cordiality, “Let it be” Skylark’s innards raged.
“Is it not dishonorable of you to not give your thanks to the one who truly rescued us?” the fire knight engendered with his dissension. “The one you have branded as a traitor?”
“I give honor to God alone, who defends all for His plans and purposes,” Ra’Ghu countered, rising from the floor.
“And who did defend us? God, or Anna? For it certainly was her magic that killed the drakons by fire, froze the lava, and opened the gates, and not to mention, sealed them to protect us from coming in here this night.”
Ra’Ghu was about to protest, but Skylark continued to spew,
“Aye, give your glory to God. Give your cheers to the wind that has no ears! But it was magic this day that saved us. That which saved us is that which is condemned by God. Kara was not saved by God, but we were all saved by Anna. I will recognize the one who has power. And so I will not recognize the God whose hand cannot even save the ones who call on his name.”
Before a contention could froth, the brash knight speedily made his way out of the chamber, taking Firestorm with him and leaving the two to be swallowed by the darkness.
Mouth agape, Ra’Ghu turned to his side after Skylark had passed out of vocal range and muttered to Talin, “Let us mount up our prayers before the Serpent on Skylark’s behalf.” And taking Talin’s hand in his own, he beseeched, “I know there is hope for those who turn from rebellion, and for those who abandon sin to walk in the way of Your heart without injustice…”
